A Family Portrait in Noordhoek: Capturing Authentic Moments by the Sea
oordhoek is one of Cape Town’s hidden gems — a wide, unspoiled beach framed by majestic mountains and endless ocean views. It was the perfect setting for a meaningful family portrait session with a wonderful family whose children, now in their twenties, had gathered while their parents were visiting.
We began the session at their charming beach house, which immediately set a relaxed and personal tone. Instead of jumping straight into posed photos, we captured authentic moments as the family played a card game together around the table. The laughter, playful teasing, and natural interaction created images that felt genuine and full of life — often these unscripted moments become the most treasured.
Afterwards, we stepped outside to make the most of Noordhoek’s breathtaking scenery. We explored the rugged rocks along the shoreline before moving onto the expansive beach. With the ocean stretching endlessly behind them and Chapman’s Peak rising in the distance, the setting added both drama and elegance to their portraits.
What made this session especially meaningful was the stage of life they’re in. When children are grown, family time becomes even more valuable. Capturing that connection — the shared history, the comfort, the quiet smiles — is something I don’t take lightly.
