Family Fun in Jongensfontein: Capturing Joy Between Christmas and New Year
The holiday season along the Garden Route is always something special. Between Christmas and New Year, coastal towns like Jongensfontein come alive with visiting families, long beach days, and unforgettable moments together.
I recently had the pleasure of photographing a large extended family gathering in the charming seaside town of Jongensfontein, near Stilbaai. With family members traveling from different parts of the world to be together, the atmosphere was filled with excitement, laughter, and genuine connection.
We chose a striking rocky backdrop overlooking the ocean for the session. Although we photographed at midday — traditionally a challenging time due to harsh sunlight — professional flash photography allowed us to balance the light beautifully. This ensured vibrant colours, crisp detail, and flattering tones in every image, even under the bright coastal sun.
One of the highlights of this session was the incredible energy the family brought. From toddlers exploring the rocks to teenagers joking with cousins, every generation embraced the moment. Large family sessions can sometimes feel overwhelming, but this one was relaxed, joyful, and full of personality.
As a family photographer, I understand how meaningful these holiday gatherings are — especially when loved ones travel far to be together. Capturing everyone in one frame, along with the smaller in-between interactions, creates a gallery that tells the full story of your time together.
