Keep it simple, comfortable and coordinated rather than matching. Neutral tones, soft colours and a few textured layers usually work best for Cape Town’s outdoor locations, while large logos and very bright neon colours can be distracting. I’ll send you a detailed style and clothing guide before your session so you feel fully prepared.
Cape Town weather can change quickly, so I always keep an eye on the forecast in the days before your shoot. If the wind or rain looks like it will affect your session, we’ll chat about rescheduling or choosing a more sheltered location – I never want you to feel stressed about the conditions
You’ll receive your full edited gallery is usually ready within 10 days of your family shoot. Your images are delivered in an online gallery that’s easy to share with family and friends anywhere in the world (Wetransfer)

Yes, absolutely – I often photograph multigenerational families, as well as families visiting Cape Town on holiday who want to capture their time together. We can plan a session that includes grandparents, cousins and different groupings so everyone gets meaningful photos.
That may differ month to month but last minute bookings sometimes does happen. Where possible it is best to firm up dates far in advance.
I regularly photograph families all over Cape Town and the Western Cape, including Camps Bay, Clifton, Sea Point, Blouberg, Noordhoek, Muizenberg, Durbanville, Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. Whether you’re a local family or visiting Cape Town on holiday, we can choose a location that fits your vibe – beaches, forests, vineyards or the city

My Philosophy on family photography
It’s All About the People
As a Cape Town family photographer (and a dad of two energetic boys), I’ve learned that it’s not about fancy gadgets or the size of your home — it’s about the people in it. Life moves fast, but family photography helps freeze those real, beautiful moments. The hugs, the laughs, the chaos... it's all worth remembering.
Slow Down and Soak It In
One of the best parts of being a family photographer in Cape Town is reminding people to slow down and enjoy the moment. With my own family, I already feel time flying — one day you're pushing prams, the next you're getting tackled in the living room. During shoots, I always say: let the kids be wild, let nature do its thing, and just enjoy being together. That’s when the good stuff happens.
The photography experience
Sure, we’re here for beautiful photos—but it’s about the experience too. As a family photographer in Cape Town, my goal is for you to look at your pictures years from now and smile, not just because you looked great, but because they take you right back to that fun, silly, sun-soaked day. That’s what family photography in Cape Town should be: real, relaxed, and full of heart.
Kids Will Be Kids — And That’s how it should be
As a fellow parent, I totally get it — kids have moods, energy, and snack demands on rotation. Don’t worry, I’ve seen it all. As your family photographer in Cape Town, I’m here for the wild, the weird, and the wonderful. Let the kids run, climb, make faces — that’s often where the magic happens. We’re not chasing perfection, we’re capturing personality.
My family photography style
I don’t like to pigeon-hole myself into a particular style or genre.
Every kid and family member is different. Working with the ingredients that you get will influence the final product.
Natural outdoor family photographer
When I started out 18 years ago, this was exactly why people booked me. Capturing beautiful, honest, and authentic moments between loved ones has always been my number one goal as a family photographer in Cape Town. Families come to me for natural outdoor family photography that truly reflects their connections and personalities.
Beautiful light
Beautiful light is at the core of my photography style. Big soft lighting is all around us. We need to see it. Sometimes we will have to help create it.
Nature where possible
You will always notice mountains or nature scenes. I am not a big fan of studio photos.
My approach as a Cape Town family photographer
In the end it's about you. Helping you achieve what you had envisioned for this day.
“Be prepared”
I provide parents with some great advice about locations, clothing, what to expect and more tips. Thus there are usually no big surprises while doing the shoot. This enables all of us to go with the flow much more during the shoot - with the end result: fun and joy.
“Go with the flow”
Yes, we will get the formal group shots, but the idea is to use the location and the people to guide us. This means everybody is a lot more relaxed and creatively opens up more options than working to a shot-list. Some kids are great at the beginning of the shoot. Some warm up only later. I've got it covered!
“Engage with kids”
All kids differ. Some are loud. Some are not. I have worked with all personalities. So this means each shoot will differ. Sometimes we will start out just shooting. Sometimes we have to build a bit of a relationship first. And that's all good.
“Sniper-zoom lens"
I love my 80 - 200 mm lens. This is where I get close, without getting close. We start the shoot very low-key. This gives everyone time to get used to the strange dude with the big camera.
Props and stuff
For weddings I am not big fan of props but for family shoots it's great. If we give the kids "something" to focus on they lose a lot of the shyness which means great shots.
“To pose” or “not to pose?”
I dream about a photoshoot where there is 0% posing involved. That would be the holy grail. I think we should coin a new term:
If you’re looking for a family photographer in Cape Town, I offer relaxed, natural outdoor sessions designed to capture real moments. Whether you’re visiting Cape Town or live here, I’ll help you create beautiful family memories in some of the city’s best locations.
