Office photography is about the people who work there, and the spaces that shape that work

Whether you’re a financial services firm, a law practice, an accounting group, a consulting team, or any professional services business based in an office — your visual identity needs the same four ingredients: confident individual portraits, cohesive team imagery, the office or workspace itself shot in flattering light, and authentic people-at-work photography that conveys actual professional life.

I shoot all four. The same eye and approach works across sector lines because the brief is fundamentally the same: show real professionals doing real work, in spaces that look like the kind of place clients want to do business with. I’ve photographed teams in financial services, law firms, accounting practices, consultancies, tech offices, government, and professional services across Cape Town, Stellenbosch, and the broader Western Cape.

Headshots

Confident, professional, polished — but human. Vertical headshots tuned for LinkedIn profiles, company websites, and primary directory imagery. Below: a mix of corporate vertical headshots from across the financial, legal, and political sectors in Cape Town.

Environmental portraits

Wider-frame headshots that include environmental context — desks, offices, brand spaces. Used for banner imagery, hero sections, magazine editorials, and any application where the wider frame tells more of the story.

Group & team shots

The leadership team, the practice partners, the department portrait. Group photography is harder than individual portraits — every face has to land, the composition has to feel professional rather than awkward, and the lighting has to flatter everyone equally. Below: a small selection of group portraits from offices across Cape Town.

Office spaces & environments

The office itself, photographed in its best light. Reception areas, boardrooms, open-plan workspaces, breakouts, and the architectural details that signal credibility. Used for website hero images, recruitment marketing, brochures, and corporate communications. Below: office spaces from professional service firms across Cape Town and Stellenbosch.

People at work — authentic professional imagery

Real moments, not stock-photo poses. Conversations across desks, meetings in progress, focused work, the in-between moments that make an office actually feel like a professional environment. Used to show culture and authenticity in marketing, recruitment, and brand storytelling.

Industries this work serves

Office photography is the same visual brief across many industries. The same approach, gear, and direction style works for:

  • Financial services — banks, investment firms, wealth managers, insurance, fintech.
  • Legal — law firms, chambers, advocate practices, legal-tech.
  • Accounting & tax — audit firms, accounting groups, tax advisory practices.
  • Consulting — management consultancies, strategy firms, advisory groups.
  • Tech & SaaS — software companies, startups, scale-ups in office environments.
  • Government & public sector — political portraits, departmental teams, public-facing professionals.
  • Real estate & property — agencies, developers, property management teams.
  • Healthcare admin & medical services — practice managers, admin teams, executive medical leadership.

Whatever your sector, if it’s based in an office and the people in it need to look professional and human, the brief is the same.

Planning an office shoot?

Strong office shoot briefs usually cover six areas — and these are what I plan, shoot, and deliver against:

  • Headshots — every person in the team, vertical + horizontal options where useful
  • Groups & teams — leadership, department, full-team where appropriate
  • Office & environment — reception, workspace, meeting rooms, key brand-touch areas
  • People at work — authentic moments of focused work and collaboration
  • Detail & brand touchpoints — signage, branded materials, the small things that build identity
  • Editorial & campaign work — hero imagery, recruitment marketing, social-media-ready content

For typical office shoots I plan a half-day or full-day session, briefing the team in advance so portraits feel natural rather than forced.

Common questions about office photography

Do you photograph entire teams in one session?

Depending on the size and scope of the brief, that’s usually possible — exact timing and approach get worked out during the briefing call.

Can headshots be done in our office or do we come to your studio?

Both work. On-location at your office gives more authentic environmental context and lets you build a coherent library that includes office spaces. I bring my full lighting kit and the same grey background I use in my home studio — so you get studio-quality lighting and uniform backgrounds even on-site. Most clients prefer on-location for the convenience and the additional context it provides.

How do you handle staff who hate being photographed?

Carefully. The shoot is briefed in advance so people know what to expect. I work fast (5–10 minutes per headshot once the lighting is set), give clear direction, and most camera-shy staff relax once they see how efficient the process is.

What about retouching?

Standard retouching is included on the final selected images per the package booked — typically skin smoothing, blemish removal, eye and teeth brightening, and colour grading. Heavier retouching (clothing changes, multi-person composites) quoted as additional time.

What deliverables do I get?

Both high-resolution files (for print, website hero use) and low-resolution files (sized for social media, email signatures, LinkedIn) — typically delivered within 3 working days of the shoot via private gallery.
