Vrede en Lust sits at the foot of the Simonsberg, between Franschhoek and Paarl, on one of the oldest wine estates in the Western Cape. The mountain views from the ceremony lawn are exceptional — you’re looking across the Drakenstein Valley with a backdrop that changes colour throughout the day.
Chris and Danielle chose Vrede en Lust for its combination of scale and intimacy. The estate is large enough to handle a full wedding day with room to breathe, but the venue spaces — particularly the cellar and the terrace — have a warmth and texture that more modern venues often sacrifice for polish.
For photography, it’s a generous location: strong directional light in the late afternoon, interesting architecture, and a colour palette that works in any season.
