Pre-drinks

The happiest half-hour of the day — drinks, hugs and everyone still looking their best, photographed while nobody is looking.

Pre-drinks

A lot of photographers whisk the couple away for portraits straight after the confetti. I don't — pre-drinks is one of my favourite parts of the day, and I'd rather you were in it. Everybody still looks their best, the light is good, and you haven't spoken to anyone yet. Give yourself twenty to thirty minutes to greet every guest while the drinks are served; I work paparazzi-style through it — people laughing while nobody's looking, three friends waving for one quick frame, wide shots, close-ups, and the details of the setting.

In the second half we do the group photos close by — family first, then friends. Once the snacks come out and you've had a bite yourselves, that's when we quietly slip away for the couple shoot. The timing between me and your MC matters here, and it's exactly the kind of thing we lock down when we plan how your Cape Town wedding day flows.
