Sunsets

The golden ten minutes — Cape sunsets over vineyards and beaches, worth stepping out of the reception for.

Sunsets

The sunset is really the second half of the couple shoot — and it is the one part of the day we can plan precisely and still never fully predict. I know the exact time and which side of the venue it will happen on, months in advance. What the sky actually does on the day is the Cape’s decision. Some couples book me for this specific reason — if the sunset photos are massively important to you, tell me, and we build the whole timeline around it.

The trick most people miss: the best colours come AFTER the sunset time on your phone. We keep shooting to about twenty minutes past it — that is where the deep colours and the twilight frames live. Silhouettes come free; to make the colours really pop with you sharp in front, I expose for the sky and light you properly with flash from the front — and sometimes backlight you with a second flash for good measure.
